Survival Tips For Small Businesses Essay Research Paper Example For Students

Survival Tips For Small Businesses Essay Research Paper You may be in Mail Order, Direct Mail, or you may be a local merchant with 150 employees; whichever, however or whatever youve got to know how to keep your business alive during economic recessions. Anytime the cash flow in a business, large or small, starts to tighten up, the money management of that business has to be run as a tight ship. Some of the things you can and should do include protecting yourself from expenditures made on sudden impulse. Weve all bought merchandise or services we really didnt need simply because we were in the mood, or perhaps in response to the flamboyancy of the advertising or the persuasiveness of the salesperson. Then we sort of wake up a couple of days later and find that weve committed hundreds of dollars of business funds for an item or service thats not essential to the success of our own business, when really pressing items had been waiting for those dollars. If you are incorporated, you can eliminate these impulse purchases by including in your by-laws a clause that states: All purchasing decisions over (a certain amount) are contingent upon approval by the board of directors. This will force you to consider any impulse purchases of considerable cost, and may even be a reminder in the case of smaller purchases. If your business is a partnership, you can state, when faced with a buying decision, that all purchases are contingent upon the approval of a third party. In reality, the third party can be your partner, one of your department heads, or even one of your suppliers. If your business is a sole proprietorship, you dont have much to worry about really, because as an individual you have three days to think about your purchase, and then to nullify that purchase if you think you dont really need it or cant afford it. While you may think you cannot afford it, be sure that you dont short-change yourself on professional services. This would apply especially during a time of emergency. Anytime you commit yourself and move ahead without completely investigating all the angles, and preparing yourself for all the contingencies that may arise, youre skating on thin ice. Regardless of the costs involved, it always pays off in the long run to seek out the advice of experienced professionals before embarking on a plan that could ruin you. As an example, an experienced business consultant can fill you in on the 1244 stock advantages. Getting eligibility for the 1244 stock category is a very simple process, but one with tremendous benefits to your business. The 1244 status encourages investors to put equity capital into your business because in the event of a loss, amounts up to the entire sum of the investment can be written off in the current year. Without the 1244 classification, any losses would have to be spread over several years, and this, of course, would greatly lessen the attractiveness of your companys stock. Any business owner who has not filed the 1244 corporation has in effect cut himself off from 90 percent of his prospective investors. Particularly when sales are down, you must be hard-nosed with people trying to sell you luxuries for your business. When business is booming, you undoubtedly will allow sales people to show you new models of equipment or a new line of supplies; but when your business is down, skip the entertaining frills and concentrate on the basics. Great care must be taken however, to maintain courtesy and allow these sellers to consider you a friend and call back at another time. Your companys books should reflect your way of thinking, and whoever maintains them should generate information according to your policies. Thus, you should hire an outside accountant or accounting firm to figure your return on your investment, as well as the turnover on your accounts receivable and inventory. Such an audit or survey should focus in depth on any or every item within your financial statement that merits special attention. In this way, youll probably uncover any pote ntial financial problems before they become readily apparent, and certainly before they could get out of hand. Brutus the honorable man Essay Example

Brutus the honorable man Essay Example Brutus the honorable man Paper Brutus the honorable man Paper There are many people who, for the sake of their country, would betray a friend. This makes Brutus honorable to his country but not to his friend. Depending on what he thought was for the greater good, Caesar becoming the sole leader, or the devotion that he has for his country; he honored what he thought was best for Rome. Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more (3. 2. 23-24). Brutus had honored Caesar but Brutus felt that Caesar was too ambitious. Brutus also felt that Caesar made the romans as slaves, and feared for the Republic. Therefore, Brutus oins the conspiracy because he had the desire to help the plebeians. Through Cassius various endeavors to get Brutus to become one of the conspirators, and the influence of others, Brutus ended up sacrificing a friend for the greater good of Rome. Believe me for mine honor, and have respect to mine honor that you may believe (3. 2. 14-15). What Brutus is saying at this point in time is that the public crowd should listen to him because he is an honorable and trustworthy person. This goes along with what is known about Brutus because he is the type of person who elieves strongly in honor, morals, and being true to Rome since he is, after all, a Roman. Brutus shows true honor and love for the people of Rome. Am I entreated to Speak and Strike? Of Rome I make thee promise, if the redress will follow, then receivest thy full petition at the hand of Brutus (2. 1. 59-61). Even though it may have seemed a bit unclear, as Brutus stabbed Caesar, he had a lot of compassion for him. He didnt make a mess of the body, and he as well as the other conspirators helped to clean up his body and around him to make sure that there was no mess made to espect Julius Caesar. Brutus selflessness made him the leader Rome needed. A man who does everything for the wellbeing of the Roman citizens. No, not an oath. If not the face of men, the sufferance of our souls, the times abuse if these be motives weak, break off betimes, and every man hence to his idle bed. So let high- sighted tyranny range on till each man drop by lottery. (2. 1. 119-124) Brutus tells the conspirators that there is no need for an oath because they Join for the same and common cause , and thats why they do not need the oath. He believes so intensely in what he desires to accomplish that he does not fear for oath breakers; that is if they all serve the Roman people and are being smug in their act. What Brutus considers smug he also considers honorable, even if it means betraying a friend for the better of a country. This is why Brutus considered his act of disloyalty honorable. Brutus intentions were very clear; he loved Rome and its people Just as much as he loved Caesar. Brutus wonders how the best power of Rome can be accomplished, and esorts to assassination since it is the only method of removing Caesar, who will not be moved from his oppressive and fake government. One of the reasons that Brutus is a tragic hero is that he is very hesitant about killing Caesar. He has to think hard about what will be the best for Rome. He is the only conspirator who actually kills Caesar because he thinks it will help Roman citizens, not because he is envious of Caesar. For example in Scene 2 Act 1 Brutus tells Lucius, Between the acting of a dreadful thing and the first motion, all the interim is like a phantasma or a hideous ream He is saying that talking about doing such a dreadful thing is like some horrible dream that seems almost unreal. Brutus is the only conspirator who honestly wants whats good for Rome. Another reason that Brutus is the tragic hero is because he never deceives anyone throughout the whole play. When Brutus tells the conspirators, Fly not; stand stiff: ambitions debt is paid, it really shows how he felt he knew that Caesar had to die to help Rome and the senators shouldnt be worried because they did the right thing. He didnt Just kill him because he was Jealous like many of the other senators. Brutus, a servant and close friend to Caesar, has a strong relationship with Caesar but a stronger relationship with Rome and its people. Brutus is very close to Caesar. In Roman times, the only way for someone to get close to a person of high rank is if they are close to them. In many points of the play, Brutus was talking with Caesar and he seemed to always be next to Caesar. Brutus loves Caesar, but would not allow him to climber- upward He then unto the ladder turns his back (2. . 24-26). Brutus would not allow Caesar to rise to power and then turn his back onto the people of Rome. Brutus had a very important role in the conspiracy against Caesar. He was pretty much the back-bone of the whole plan. According to Cassius, Brutus main purpose in the conspiracy is for an insurance policy. The people will think, since Brutus was very noble to Caesar, that there must be a good reason for Caesars assassination. Cassius is the one who declares this, Brutus shall lead the way, and we will grace his heels with the most boldest and best hearts of

United States Constitution Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

United States Constitution - Essay Example What are these characteristics, what causes them and how fixed is human nature are some of the questions that we face for us to be able to to understand hat human nature human nature is like. In addressing these questions about the implications of understanding humanness, it is wise to keep in mind the end results of whichever study about Human Nature. This will be necessarily be limited by the focus of the investigation and the techniques used. ( Jeeves, 1). It is good to understand what American development is before we go deep into the subject. American Political development is the study of American political growth from a historical viewpoint. And on the the hand when we talk about institution it all paints the picture of customs, practices, or organization, frequently rooted in the rules and law that defines and structures political and social activities. United States of America constitution was written in an under democratic age. Those who researched on it and documented some findings had no intention having democratic constitution. Their findings intended to check, balance and limit political powers while protecting the citizens and property right of the whites. Most critics of the U.S. Constitution find most of it vital elements of argument under democratic and call for their removal or revision (Jillson, 52). Jillson in his book about the government of America highlights some of the prominent people like Robert A. Dahl as the greatest theorist of the second half of the twentieth century. Dahl in his book, how democratic is the constitution; he levels some criticisms in elections of those holding government positions. And also Jillson second him in his allegation, a factor that leads them to break down the constitution into four principles that governs it. This principle has in them the essence of equality includes the idea of republicanism, representative government, sovereignty of the people, limited government, bills of right, tripartite separation of power, independence of the judiciary in the exercise of [power of judicial review, supremacy of the civilian over military authority and supremacy of the constitution over all the the laws of the land. Jillson summarizes this principle into four main principles as follows; The ancient world which usually means Athens and Rome thought that government should foster human excellent Medieval Christendom thought that government should facilitate Christian life Early modern Europe came to believe that should establish and maintain order and prosperity (Jillson, 5). The Ancient: Who rules and for what purpose Rome and Athens formed the centers of the greatest European societies of those old days. Athens gives the definition of human and political values as justice, openness, and excellence hat western countries still goes after them. Rome entrenched these values in political and lawful institutions as fairness before the law federalism, balances and checks that are still central to the way we think about politics. This is clear because Athens and Rome were slave societies. They prepared their vaunted right and liberties accessible only to citizens and both fell to social and political unsteadiness. Rome and Athens learned that much of the way Europeans and the American think about politics was spearheaded, by two Greek political theorists. These men are Plato and Aristotle who both lived in Athens (Jillson, 6). Aristotle had no interest in the normative
